Innovation management at Eldorado is decentralized to give more focus and agility to the implementation of new ideas on three fronts: forestry, industry, and logistics. The improvements and innovations implemented in these areas seek to reduce environmental impacts, optimize the use of natural resources, increase productivity, reduce operating costs, improve health and safety for employees and communities, and develop new products. This innovative mindset guarantees the continuity and growth of our business, with continuous operational advances in forestry, industry, and logistics.

Innovation in the field

Our forestry operation is one of the most innovative in the sector. We conduct biotechnological research in pursuit of more resistant eucalyptus seedlings that are better adapted to the local soil and climate conditions. Aerial images taken by drones help us plan ahead and allow us to monitor our forests in real time, with continuous assessment of qualitative, technical, and environmental aspects. Trees are planted and wood harvested mechanically using modern equipment with telemetry and remote sensors that send information to the control center. We have invested in a robust fire monitoring system, which uses cameras on towers and drones together with artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically detect forest fires and issue warnings. We have also developed an unprecedented process never before seen in the pulp sector to produce biomass from eucalyptus stumps and roots, which feeds the Onça Pintada thermoelectric power plant in our industrial complex. Special machines and equipment were designed and developed specifically for this operation.
Innovation in industry

Eldorado Brazil's industrial complex is at the technological forefront in the sector. We produce 18% more pulp than the mill’s nominal capacity as a result of good management focused on innovation, technology, and continuous improvement. Our industrial management system (IMS) records and analyzes all events and proposes improvements. The mill operates on the technological frontier with automatic, computerized, integrated systems controlling every stage of production. With our Autonomous Mill project, we are increasing automation and efficiency using Industry 4.0 and AI solutions. Technological applications also make it possible to anticipate equipment failures and generate virtual models that forecast production 12 months in advance. The mill also has a system for monitoring gases and temperatures in confined spaces, increasing employee safety. Combining environmental management, innovation, and technology, the industrial plant has been producing more pulp, consuming less water, using fewer chemicals, and generating less effluents and greenhouse gases, which are monitored by the Environmental Performance Index (EPI). The industrial complex is also energy self-sufficient, using green, renewable energy produced from eucalyptus biomass on site.
Innovation in transport

Eldorado Brazil's logistics system involves a multimodal network comprised of roads, rail, and rivers. The fleet of modern trucks that takes wood to the mill and chips to the Onça Pintada power plant consumes less fuel and emits less greenhouse gases. These vehicles are equipped with remote sensing and telemetry systems that provide data on their location, driver behavior, fuel consumption, braking, and more, which is transmitted to our control tower in real time. Analyzing this data can be used as a basis for remote interventions relating to safety and the need for repairs or maintenance. The trucks are also fitted with fatigue and distraction detection cameras that are monitored remotely by analysts, reinforcing driver safety. Eldorado Brazil uses software called EldPlanning to identify the most efficient routes for transporting pulp to ports. The control tower monitors all cargo transport, from the mill to storage at port terminals, including the loading of pulp onto ships.
